This classic Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning American drama is the autobiographical portrait of Eugene O’Neill as a young man, struggling against the dysfunction of a family torn by painful memories, love and addiction. O’Neill was an eloquent poet, and crafted poignant portrayals of his parents, his brother and himself, caught in one day’s turbulent travels through past hopes and lost dreams. Each member of the family tries to overcome their own ghosts as they struggle to reconcile their pain with the love they share for one another.
James Tyrone is an aging actor and skinflint whose miserliness has been the ruin of his family. His wife, Mary, has been a morphine addict since the birth of their youngest son, Edmund. Their eldest son, Jamie is an alcoholic, unwilling to find work on his own, he has been 'forced' to take up his father's profession. Edmund, who had escaped the family drama as a sailor has returned home sick and awaits the doctor's diagnosis of consumption. The interdependence of these tortured souls creates a story of loss, heartbreak and love interwoven in one traumatic summer day...
