There are many ways to get

involved with PTD Productions.

Everyone is welcome here, whether you are an old hand at theater or curious to try it for the first time. We need actors and audience members, of course, so check out information on auditions and ticket sales elsewhere on this site. But we also need a host of other volunteers to keep PTD going strong.

Front-of-House Staff

Every performance needs a staff of ushers and box office workers. Volunteers arrive 45 minutes before curtain time to help with these tasks. There is then an opportunity to see the production for free in exchange for your time.

Designers and Technical Crews

Do you like making things? Are you handy with power tools? Do you sling a mean paintbrush? Can you make a Singer sewing machine sing? Do you like hunting for bargains or decorating rooms? Do set-, sound-, lighting-, or costume design interest you? PTD prides itself on high production values. We have our own design space and work both there and on the RAC stage in order to bring to life the world of every play. Join our crew(s) and lend your expertise or just come to learn by doing. All experience levels are welcome.

Producers and Directors

With each new season we look for leaders to emerge from our company to bring their artistic visions and organization skills to the vital roles of producing and directing. If this appeals to you, we want to know.

PTD Productions is now accepting applications to direct for our 2026 season! If you are interested, please read the following guidelines before submitting your application:

* Directors may submit 1-3 plays. Please submit a separate application for each play.

* Directors may only direct 1 play per season.

* If you have experience directing elsewhere but have never worked with PTD before, we ask that you volunteer with us in some capacity (cast, crew, front of the house, etc.) before submitting an application to direct. If you have never directed a play before, we ask that you first volunteer as an Assistant Director with PTD before submitting an application to direct.

* All applications must include a copy of the play. You can:
     * Email a PDF of the play to Karrie Waarala at klwaarala@gmail.com
     * Mail a hard copy of the play to PTD Productions, P.O. Box 970470, Ypsilanti, MI 48197
     * If you mail a hard copy, please indicate if you need it returned to you. We will return it by mail if you do.

* When submitting a copy of the play, please indicate selections (a single scene, or multiple scenes) you believe are representative of the play. These will be read aloud by the Play Reading Committee. Please limit to 10 pages of dialogue maximum. (NOTE: For every monologue, please reduce the total number of pages by 1.)

* Deadline for application is June 15, 2025. The committee will schedule interviews with all applicants (via Zoom) over the summer. The 2026 season selections will be finalized by the PTD Board in August or September, and all applicants will be notified at that time.

* All selected directors will need to sign a contract with PTD Productions. A copy of the contract will be shared at the time of director interviews.

Please follow this link to submit your application. If you have any questions, please email Janet Rich at janei2@aol.com and/or Karrie Waarala at klwaarala@gmail.com. Thank you for your interest!
